- GenTree supports the Genealogical Data Communications standard for transfer-
- ring genealogical information between different genealogy programs (and different
- types of computers). Currently, GenTree supports the draft release 5.3 of the GED-
- COM standard. GenTree supports the standard by the utility GEDCOMConverter pro-
- vided when you register GenTree.

- To import a GEDCOM file for GenTree's use:
- · Start the GEDCOMConverter utility. Import a GEDCOM file by following the in-
- structions which come with the utility. Quit the application.
- · Start GenTree
- · Open the Gentree database created with GEDCOMConverter.
- · Check the Notes Media Database for any processing notes. GEDCOMConverter
- creates notes for any parts of the GEDCOM file it does not understand. If neces-
- sary, use the notes to guide you in cleaning up the records of the family tree.
- · Use the Join menu item to join the GEDCOM family tree to your family tree.

- To export a GenTree database to a GEDCOM file:
- · Start the GEDCOMConverter utility.
- · Follow the instructions that come with the utility.
